At Schöckl the Alps taper off to the east. This makes it a particularly attractive flying area for paragliders and hang gliders not far from Graz. The mountain railroad transports pilots to the top. From there it is a short walk to the main launch site (southeast). It is highly recommended to take a closer look at the landing area before going up by train. It is reasonably large, but slopes down to the south. It is not so easy, especially in thermal conditions and pilots landing at the same time. Pay attention to the cable car, road, parking lot and lines. Alternatively, you can land at the kite landing area further south. Pay landing fee at the club (currently 4 € - as of 2010) or at the mountain lift in the restaurant. Cross-country flights are possible, but not so easy. The max. altitude is limited because of the nearby control zone Graz. Please inform on site about the SRA Graz and the control zone. Due to game protection reasons, takeoff is allowed at the earliest 2 hours after sunrise. End 2 hours before sunset. An interesting flying area.
